A softball facility is a field, or a stadium with a field, configured for the game of softball, a sport derived from baseball. The softball field is generally smaller than a baseball field, and the sport is played with a much larger ball which is pitched underhand.
The field is configured for the softball game, with batting, fielding, and advancement around the bases. A stadium can surround it, but the facility can also consist of the field without spectator stands.
Compared with baseball, the larger ball and underhand pitch identify the softball game, alongside its generally smaller field. The related diamond arrangement does not by itself make the two sports identical.
