A residential medical facility for long-term intensive care, recuperation, or isolation of contagious disease.

Facility for housing medical patients in long-term intensive care, either to provide an atmosphere conducive to healing and/or for isolation of contagious diseases.
Patients stay at the facility for continuing care. A supportive recuperative setting and separation of contagious patients are alternative purposes.
The definition does not require every patient to be terminally ill. Long-term medical accommodation distinguishes the use from an outpatient consultation clinic.
