connected street
The street that carries on where this one begins or ends, held as a link to that street rather than as a written name.
A street rarely stops at open ground. It runs into another street, and the two fields record which street that is at the start of this one and at its end.
The pair is what makes a continuous route readable: following the connection from street to street traces a road that changes its name along the way.
The field stays empty where there is no single answer. A street ending at a square, a dead end or a junction of several equal streets has no one continuation to record.
