Pictured: Smithsonian Castle

Maroon is a dark, dull shade of red, about halfway between red and brown. It includes the shade known as brick red; this is one of the most common shades for brick facades, but is also found as a color for sandstone and granite.

Hex triplet: 800000

Brick red is included, but the material need not be brick. The brown contribution distinguishes it from the redder crimson. The hex triplet is a comparison sample for a range of similar facade colors, rather than an exact-match requirement.
