military division
Areas under military authority, such as a garrison, training ground or closed zone.
A military division is a division whose areas are under military authority: a garrison district, a training area, a restricted or closed zone. The armed forces or the defense ministry define them, and access, use and building inside them are governed by that authority rather than by the municipality.
Such an area may sit inside a municipality without belonging to its administration, and it may be unpopulated, mapped only in outline, or not published at all. It ends when the use ends, and the ground then falls back to civil administration.
A protected division also restricts use but does so for conservation and under civil law. Where the restriction rests on defense authority, the division is military.
