stadsdeel
A district of a large Dutch city, holding a committee rather than a council.
A stadsdeel is a district of a large Dutch city, chiefly Amsterdam and formerly Rotterdam. It is an official subdivision of the municipality rather than a municipality itself.
Amsterdam's districts once had elected councils with substantial powers. Those were abolished in 2014 and replaced by advisory committees, so the districts remain as areas while their authority is much reduced.
The Dutch word is kept because the arrangement has no exact equivalent elsewhere.
