OKTMO code
The code for a Russian municipal territory in the All-Russian Classifier of Territories of Municipal Formations, kept by Rosstat.
OKTMO is the register of Russian municipal formations maintained by Rosstat. It has been in force since 1 January 2014, when it replaced OKATO, so a code taken from an older source may follow the earlier scheme.
The code is hierarchical. Its leading digits identify the federal subject, so a unit’s parent follows from the code itself rather than from a separate field.
Leading zeros are significant. A code stored as a number instead of a string loses them and then points at the wrong subject.
