A dialysis center is a clinic for the routine care of persons with kidney failure or kidney malfunction. Patients in these centers are hooked up to a dialysis machine which removes waste and excess water from their bloodstreams, thus replacing part of the lost kidney function.

The center provides repeated blood-filtering treatment for patients whose kidneys cannot perform that work adequately. It is a treatment facility rather than only a consultation office.

Machine-based hemodialysis removes wastes and excess fluid from circulating blood. It replaces part of kidney function rather than every function of healthy kidneys.
