pedestrian main entrance

A commonly used pedestrian portal serving a building as a whole or a major usage zone, rather than merely a side use.

A pedestrian main entrance is a doorway or other portal which serves as a commonly used entry and exit for a main usage zone of a building. Generally speaking, it serves the building as a whole, or a significant part of it, rather than a single unit within a much larger building. It excludes doorways which are seldom used, or which serve only a side usage (such as a restaurant entrance in an office building).

In a mixed-use building, any entrance serving one or more of the major usages would count as a main entrance. A main entrance does not signify that it is the primary entrance to a building. A building can have more than one main entrance. Nor does it signify that the entrance constitutes a postal delivery address, although it usually does.

The importance of the use served determines whether the entrance is main. A building can have several such entrances, and a postal address is not required for each one.
