cast stone
Concrete or cement-based units formulated and cut to resemble natural stone.
Cast stone is an artificial building material made from cement or concrete, which is made to look like natural stone, either through its cutting (often with a rusticated surface), through inclusion of crushed stones, gravel, sand, and/or pigments in the mixture, or a combination of these methods. It has been used in construction since at least 1138.
The cement-based material imitates natural stone through its mixture, worked surface, or both. Crushed stone, sand, gravel, and pigments can contribute to that appearance.
A rusticated surface is one possible treatment rather than a requirement. The stone-like appearance is produced in a manufactured material, in contrast to a piece cut directly from natural stone.
