A hall is a building which encloses a small number of very large interior spaces, which for the most part are not divided into regular floor levels. The finished ceiling height must be at least 5 meters, and the open interior space should be at least 100 square meters without permanent dividing walls, although it may be interrupted by support columns.

Typical examples of halls include performance venues, airport terminals, and convention centers.

Multi-story buildings with large atriums are not counted as halls. Sports arenas, houses of worship, and capitol-type buildings are classified separately.
