A zoo is a constructed area with a variety of enclosures, habitats, holding pens, buildings, and other exhibit areas which display live animals for entertainment, often with an additional mission of conservation or education. Exhibits may be in outdoor habitats, open-air cages, or inside buildings. Zoos are often located in city parks, but are also commonly stand-alone features.
The site includes an arrangement of animal-holding and display areas. Indoor buildings can form part of the zoo alongside outdoor habitats.
Conservation or education can accompany the entertainment purpose. A zoo can occupy part of a city park or form a separate facility.
