Australian GCCSA code
The five-character code identifying an Australian Greater Capital City Statistical Area in the standard kept by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
A Greater Capital City Statistical Area represents the functional labor market of a capital city, built up from the Bureau's statistical areas. It is much larger than the city's council area or its urban center: Greater Adelaide covers far more ground than the City of Adelaide.
Five characters, and the only code in this family that is not numeric. The state or territory digit comes first, then a four-character identifier: 4GADE is Greater Adelaide in South Australia, 1GSYD is Greater Sydney in New South Wales. The balance of each state uses R in place of G, so 1RNSW is the rest of New South Wales.
There are 16 of these areas, eight capital cities and their balances, alongside 19 special-purpose codes.
