wood

A staircase whose supporting framework is made of wood, distinct from a wooden finish over another structural material.

A wood staircase is a set of steps in a built object whose supporting framework is built of wooden beams, posts, sheets, boards, or other pieces harvested from trees and usually milled. Wooden staircases are very common in houses and all kinds of wood-frame structures. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to build, and are sometimes used for aesthetic effect to create a warm, homelike, or naturalistic feeling.

The wood carries the steps through beams, boards, posts, or other framing pieces. It is the supporting material of the stair.

A timber finish over a concrete or steel staircase does not establish a wooden framework. The structure beneath the finish determines the stair material.
