region
A first-level or second-level country subdivision, used where the country's own term is region.
A region is a territorial division in countries that use the word for it, among them France, Italy, Greece and New Zealand.
Its rank differs by country. A French or Italian region is the top tier below the state, while in other countries the word names something well below that.
Set the tier from the country's own hierarchy rather than from the term. This type records what the country calls the unit and nothing about how high it sits.
