Mayan architecture extends from a few centuries B.C. to about 1500 A.D in Central America and southern Mexico. It is characterized by large symmetrical stone constructions with sculptures and relief carvings, corbel vaults, roof combs, and steep staircases. The most common surviving structures include pyramids, temples, palaces, and ball courts.
This style inspired Mayan Revival architecture for a brief time, mainly in the 1920s.
