Wood processing plants are facilities where raw forestry materials are turned into usable products or commodities, including paper, milled wood, logs, sawdust, mulch, and other forms of finished or partly finished wood.

The output can remain solid wood or take the form of particles or paper material. Different processes therefore qualify under the same broader wood-processing use.

Simply storing timber for later use is a storage activity. A sawmill or shredding plant changes the material into the intended usable form.
