Definitions

passenger traffic per year

The number of persons entering or passing through a transportation node as passengers in its primary connected routes.

The passenger traffic per year is a statistic applied to transportation nodes, such as airports, rail stations, bus terminals, etc., which measures the annual number of persons who enter, exit, or transfer through that node in the process of riding the transportation connections which it serves.

The number should only reflect the primary mode of transportation served by that node: for example, persons arriving at an airport by train, but who are not flying on that visit, are not counted as airport passengers. Similarly, passengers arriving at a rail station by bus are counted only for the bus stop and not for the rail station unless they board a train.
