elevator operator
People employed to control an elevator from inside its cabin on behalf of the riders.
Elevator operators are persons employed to sit or stand in elevators and control their movements on behalf of tenants and users of a structure.
The work is the operation of the elevator for its passengers. It can involve direct control of movement in a manually controlled car or use of the controls in an automatic elevator. The presence of an operator does not by itself identify the elevator mechanism.
A doorman attends the entrance to a building, while an elevator operator controls an elevator from inside it. Elevator maintenance is a separate activity concerned with keeping the machinery in working order.
