soft sand
A floor or ground area composed of sand particles packed very loosely with pronounced ripples in the surface.
A soft sand surface, usually used for ground areas, beaches, playgrounds, or sports pitches, is a layer of sand which is uncompressed, leaving a relatively soft surface with prominent undulations, ripples, or irregularities. It is generally difficult to walk or run on compared to hard sand, and is suitable as a play area, for informal activities, or as a playing surface for volleyball and other beach sports.
The sand remains loosely arranged and uncompressed, with pronounced surface irregularities. The softness follows that physical state of the sand layer.
Hard sand is compacted or hardened into a firmer surface. The distinction does not require the sands to have different mineral compositions.
