A retail building is an enclosed structure where some form(s) of retail constitutes the sole primary usage. This may include various forms of shops, dining & drinking, and customer-facing service businesses. It can also house certain forms of amusement establishments which are operated as retail entities. Normally wholesale facilities are not spoken of as retail buildings.
Several retail activities can share the building while remaining its sole primary use. The businesses can sell goods, prepare food, or provide services directly to customers.
A commercial building has a broader business-occupancy meaning. A wholesale facility generally has a separate role from the customer-facing retail building.
