heating type

The energy source and, where applicable, delivery system used to heat a building's main occupied areas.

The heating type of a building is the means by which a building is kept warm and occupiable in case of cold weather. It accounts for both the energy type used in generating the heat, and in many cases for the mechanical system of delivery. Only heating types applied widely throughout a main usage zone are listed for any building.

The heating arrangement includes how warmth is generated and, where relevant, how it reaches occupied space. A local appliance warming only a small isolated part differs from a system applied widely across a main use area.

Active heating uses generated heat, while no active heating includes passive heating and an absence of heating equipment. A building can therefore lack active heating without receiving no warmth at all.
