The number of tracks is the maximum number of parallel or distinct pathways for rail-guided transport. It is used especially for bridges and train stations.

This is different from, but often closely related to, the number of platforms in a station.

Tracks are the rail-guided paths themselves. A platform is a passenger access surface, so a track count and a platform count describe different parts of the transport facility.
