australian football

An oval grass field or adapted cricket ground equipped for Australian rules football.

Australian rules football is a contact sport played between two teams, normally with up to 18 players per side on the field on a large grassy field with goalposts at either end. Players attempt to control the ball and pass it to their teammates or through the opponent's goal for points.

An official Australian rules football playing field is oval in shape, with goal squares at the two narrow ends. It can also be played on a modified cricket field. Either of these fields may be assigned this usage, along with associated stadium facilities, bleachers, concessions, side areas, and team facilities.

The oval playing area distinguishes the venue from the rectangular fields used for rugby and soccer. An adapted cricket ground can support Australian football when equipped for that game, and spectator or team facilities can accompany the field.
