Soccer (also known internationally as football) is a sport played by two opposing teams who attempt to score goals by moving a soccer ball into the opponent's goal with permitted parts of their bodies, generally without handling the ball except for goalkeepers within their own penalty areas. A venue for soccer must include a suitable playing field along with two goals, preferably in the form of nets which meet international regulations for the sport.

Indoor soccer uses a walled playing area, while futsal has the separate indoor five-a-side arrangement without sideboards. The outdoor soccer field described here is distinct from those facilities even when several forms of football share a sports complex.
