indoor soccer

A walled field for football (soccer), usually indoors, with goals at both ends.

Indoor soccer is a variant of soccer (association football) which is usually played indoors, often in facilities which accommodate ice hockey or tennis (or which used to house such usage forms originally). The indoor soccer field is generally smaller than a soccer field, and is bounded by walls, usually about 2 meters high, which tend to keep the ball in play more steadily than in regular soccer. The field is typically surrounded by nets so that the ball cannot leave the field.

The surrounding walls help keep the ball in play. This is a defining feature of the playing arrangement, while the building may also have accommodated other sports.

Futsal is played without sideboards. The walled field distinguishes indoor soccer from that indoor game and from the open-boundary field used for regular soccer.
