division sort

Ranks the competing divisions of one place, lowest first, so a reader sees the familiar one.

Division sort is a region field ordering the divisions that cover the same place. The lowest number is shown first. It exists because a coordinate can fall inside several regions of the same level at once, and a reader asking where something is wants the answer people use, not every answer at once.

The number is assigned per place and per level. Regions of one division share a value, and a division nobody names in daily speech takes a higher number than one they do. An empty field sorts after every filled one, so an unrated division never displaces a rated one.

It ranks divisions against each other, not regions against each other. Ordering within a division is alphabetical or by the register's own numbering, and importance ranks an individual region for search. Division sort answers only which of several overlapping schemes to show.
