boat dock
A place in a body of water where boats can be moored alongside a pier or wharf.
A boat dock is a site in or at the edge of a body of water, where boats can be parked or moored alongside a pier or wharf. This does not refer to a buoy, anchoring zone, or other place in the open water where ships can stop and passengers can shuttle to land in another boat.
Boats are moored alongside a pier or wharf at the site. A connection to that shoreside structure is part of the arrangement.
An offshore buoy or anchoring zone is expressly excluded, even when passengers transfer to land in another boat. Boat storage separately covers longer-duration storage on land or an enclosed dock.
