funeral parlor
A place providing services between death and interment, including body preparation, cremation, or commemorative gatherings.
A funeral parlor is a place where various services are performed or held between death and interment. Services include cremation or preparation of the body for burial, and the parlor may also be used for wakes, commemoration services, or even for actual funerals when that does not take place in a house of worship.
The premises can support preparation of the body as well as gatherings for the deceased. A wake or funeral can take place there without using a separate house of worship.
A crematorium specifically performs cremation. A funeral parlor can offer a wider combination of services, and every parlor need not contain cremation equipment.
