terrazzo
A poured resin floor containing marble or other stone chips that produce a decorative surface pattern.
Terrazzo flooring is composed of a hardened liquid mass of poured resin mixed with marble or other stone chips. The stone pieces give the finished floor a decorative or colorful pattern. Different colors of terrazzo are often poured in adjoining sections of a floor, separated by thin metal borders.
The stone chips are embedded in the hardened resin. Marble is one possible chip material rather than a requirement for every terrazzo floor in this definition.
Adjoining colors and thin metal dividing strips are common details but are not mandatory. The poured mixture differs from a mosaic assembled from individually arranged stone pieces.
