damper consultant

A damper consultant is an engineering firm which designs devices with moving or flexible parts which supplement the framework in stabilizing a structure against sway. These dampers are normally swinging or shifting weights, which are positioned at the top of a tall structure to counteract wind or seismic forces.
The designed device supplements the framework in controlling movement. Its moving or flexible parts are the defining feature, rather than a requirement that every damper use an externally powered control system.
A damper fabricator manufactures the device or system. The consultant designs it, while structural engineering concerns the framework and the loads that the building must withstand.
