pallet racking
A shelving area where objects are placed on uniform-sized platforms that can be lifted by forklift trucks.
Pallet racking is a storage system for large quantities of materials, in which objects are placed on large shelves with a standard-sized transport platform underneath them for easy lifting by forklift trucks, pallet jacks, or other compatible machinery. Pallets can be made of wood, plastic, or metal, and usually hold at least 1000 kilograms. Standard sizes vary by region, but are generally close to 1 meter on each side.
Shelving in a pallet racking area is generally high capacity, with wide bays, and racks several meters tall. The aisles usually require sufficient space between them for the movement and turning of forklifts.
Pallet racking is common especially in warehouses and very large stores like hypermarkets, furniture stores, and home improvement stores.
