indoor football
An indoor field for American football, smaller than the 100-yard outdoor field.
Indoor football is a version of American football played indoors on a smaller field. It includes Arena Football and other variants. This does not pertain to regular American football played in domed stadiums. It is often played in facilities which accommodate ice hockey and/or basketball.
The smaller indoor field is part of a modified version of American football. The enclosure alone is insufficient: ordinary American football on its full field remains that game even when a dome covers the stadium.
Indoor soccer is a form of association football, while this definition concerns American-football variants. A shared arena can support either through its playing layout, and previous hockey or basketball use does not determine which football game is played.
