Numbers of rooms are indicators of the quantities of any type or class of internal divisions within a built object (especially a building, part of a building, or group of buildings). Rooms are generally bounded by walls, but may be connected to other rooms with minimal separation.
The internal division has an identifiable spatial purpose. A wall is usual, but two clearly distinct spaces can remain connected with little physical separation.
A unit can contain several rooms. Counting rooms therefore differs from counting apartments, other occupancy units, or the people using them.
