air-supported structure

A building or enclosure with a flexible membrane held in its inflated form by pressurized air.

An air-supported structure is a building whose enclosure is a pliable material inflated with pressurized air. Such constructions are often temporary, and when dismantled their status may be set to removed.

Air pressure supports the flexible enclosure in its inflated shape. The membrane is therefore more than a covering draped over an ordinary rigid frame.

Temporary installations are common, although temporary use is not required. The air-supported enclosure remains the defining physical characteristic.
