block

An officially and consistently identified urban land unit bounded by streets, with no street crossing its interior.

A block is a section of land bounded at its perimeter by streets and not bisected internally by any streets. Blocks are set up in the database when they are defined and labeled consistently within a city by a government. Normally a number is used instead of a name for a block, but many exceptions exist.

The streets define the outside of the land unit without subdividing its interior. The unit can contain multiple properties or buildings within that perimeter.

A number is the usual identifier, but a consistent official name can serve instead. The block is the bounded urban land unit rather than one individual land parcel within it.
