utilities

Structures which serve the collection and distribution of energy and basic necessary materials.

Utilities are large-scale networks for automatic collection and/or distribution of basic energy and materials. The most common utilities provide energy, fuel, water, heating, cooling, recycling, and waste disposal.

A utility structure participates in a larger network that collects or distributes energy or basic materials automatically. A connection supplying an ordinary occupied building does not by itself turn the entire building into a utility structure.

The network can deliver a supply or collect material for removal and treatment. Utility distribution identifies the transfer function, while power generation identifies production of electricity or heat.
