weather station
A site equipped to measure or record weather phenomena, ranging from a simple outpost to a network station.
A weather station is a site equipped with various measuring tools, including thermometers, barometers, rain and snow gauges, wind sensors, hygrometers, and radar scanners, in order to determine, record, and predict weather conditions. Weather stations range from very simple outposts to an advanced component of a national or worldwide meteorological network.
The equipment observes weather at the site or from its vantage point. A station can have a limited set of instruments without containing every instrument listed above.
An air quality measurement station focuses on air quality. A weather station observes meteorological conditions, and can provide data to a wider forecasting network without producing a forecast itself.
