restoration begins

Work begins on a process to return an object to its original or former appearance.

Restoration of an object begins at the moment when the first work is performed in a process intended to return it to its original appearance or design, or to some prior appearance or design which is considered more authentic, attractive, or worthy of preservation than its state before restoration. The usual purpose of restoration is to enhance the historic value of buildings by undoing the changes that have accrued over the years, including deterioration through age as well as alterations made without respect for the original design.

The process of restoration continues until interrupted or halted, or until restoration ends.

The work aims to recover an earlier appearance or design, which distinguishes restoration from an upgrade chosen solely for a new design. Its completion does not require perfect reproduction of the former condition.
