Higher education covers classroom spaces in any adult-level formal education, including colleges, universities, and professional schools, but not including training schools and informal education.

Formal adult-level study establishes the educational setting. A college, university, or professional school supplies a more particular institutional context.

Teaching adults is insufficient on its own. Informal learning and training schools remain excluded, even when their courses address advanced or professional subjects.
