marble

A floor surface made from blocks, tiles, sheets, pavers, or other pieces of natural marble.

A marble floor is constructed of blocks, tiles, sheets, pavers, or other forms of marble, a metamorphic calcite crystalline rock which is often valued for its decorative impurities. This material is common in palaces, churches, museums, public buildings, and lobbies.

The surface is made from pieces of the metamorphic stone itself. Decorative colors and patterns can vary between pieces.

Terrazzo instead embeds stone chips in a poured binder. Marble chips within that composite do not make it a floor of cut marble units.
