The primary designer of a building's shape and appearance when an associate architect also participates.
A design architect is the primary designer of a building, responsible for its shape and appearance. This designation is used when there is an associate architect involved.
The design architect supplies the principal concept for the building's form and appearance. The associate architect completes the technical details and drawings needed to realize that concept.
The designation applies to that division of responsibilities. It is not automatically a second label for every architect when no associate architect is involved.
