passenger port terminal

A shore-based or floating terminal where passengers board or leave ships, excluding ferry terminals.

A passenger port terminal is a shipping terminal, either on land or floating near the shore, where passengers board and alight from ships, including large passenger ships and cruise ships. They usually include ticketing areas and waiting rooms. Ferry terminals are not included in this category.

The terminal includes the passenger connection between shore and ship. Waiting and ticketing facilities can accompany the boarding area, including on a floating installation.

Regular ferry boarding belongs to a ferry terminal. Cruise and other passenger-ship facilities retain their separate terminal meaning even when they share a larger port with ferries.
