A building plan formed by two straight members intersecting within 22.5 degrees of a right angle.

A cross-shaped building plan is formed by two intersecting straight members, in an X-shape or similar form. They should meet within 22.5° of a right angle, but can be irregular in their respective lengths beyond the center. The ends of the intersecting forms may be straight, pointed, curved, or any other shape.

The two crossing members can extend different distances beyond their intersection. Their ends can be shaped independently while the main members retain the crossing arrangement.

An open angle joins two segments into a bent line rather than crossing two members. The cross category retains its angular tolerance and does not require four arms of equal length.
