geography

The region a building or company belongs to, held as a link to that region rather than as a written place name.

The geography field ties a record to one region in the SKYDB region tree. It stores the region, not its name, so a city that is renamed carries the new name on every record at once and no record keeps a stale spelling.

The link points at the smallest region that applies, normally the city. The tiers above it follow from the tree and are not written onto the record a second time.

A record can carry a geography without a pinpoint location. Where a pinpoint exists, the region is derived from the boundary the pinpoint falls inside.
