casement

A window that swings from a side hinge, including diagonal sides closer to vertical than horizontal.

A casement window is a hinged window which swings open from one of its sides. If the side of the frame is diagonal, the window can be classified as a casement window if the hinged side is closer to vertical than horizontal.

The hinged side need not be exactly vertical. The definition includes a diagonal side when its orientation is closer to vertical than horizontal.

An awning window hinges at the top, while a tilt window rotates about a central axis. Those hinge positions distinguish the types.
