guided pathway

A transportation corridor in which vehicles are guided by tracks, wires, or other infrastructure.

A guided pathway is a transportation corridor where vehicles are guided by tracks, rails, wires, cables, or any other form of guidance system that is fixed in place or which moves along with the vehicles.

The guidance constrains the vehicles' course through the corridor. It can use a fixed track or a system such as a cable moving with the vehicles.

A roadway has independently directed road vehicles instead. Railroads, tramways, and rapid transit lines have guided movement along their routes.
