waste collection

A facility for the collection and/or separation of regular garbage waste before it is moved to a dump, other storage, or an incinerator.

A waste collection facility is a node in the journey of garbage waste between the consumer who discards it and its final place of storage or destruction. Hazardous waste and recyclable waste collection facilities are grouped separately from this type.

The facility collects regular garbage on its way to a final storage or destruction site. It serves an intermediate role rather than necessarily being the final dump.

Recycling centers and hazardous-waste collection sites retain their separate definitions. Their specific collection functions are excluded from this regular-garbage type.
