underground building
A building divided into regular floor spaces which does not have any usable floor space at or above ground level.
An underground building is a constructed space which has regular floors underground but not above the ground level. It may have a very small entrance facility or skylight above the ground, but must be primarily underground.
The regular floor spaces lie below ground. A very small entrance facility or skylight can rise above the surface without becoming the ordinary above-ground floors of a building.
An underground station has the separate function of providing passenger access to a tunnel transport system. The underground-building form concerns constructed floor space more generally.
