A predominantly vertical structure with little space for inhabitation, even where part of it has a building-like form.

Towers are a general class of structures with a vertical form, which do not have much space inside for inhabitation. These may take a variety of appearances, including open frameworks, tubes, complex networks of supports, tanks, or shells.

Even if some portion of a tower (e.g. the base) fits the definition of a building, the whole structure should remain classified as a tower as long as the dominant form of the whole object is a tower.

The overall vertical form dominates despite any inhabitable portion at the base or elsewhere. A tall building instead derives its form from regularly divided, enclosed floors.
